The Singing Brakeman

James Charles "Jimmie" Rodgers (September 8, 1897 – May 26, 1933) was an American country singer in the early 20th century, known most widely for his rhythmic yodeling. Among the first country music superstars and pioneers, Rodgers was also known as "The Singing Brakeman", "The Blue Yodeler", and "The Father of Country Music".[1]

And yes, I have a hat like that. Sometimes Alf wears it.

  1. Shame he died so young. Thanks for the link to his museum. Very interesting! We didn't hear that type of music while growing up here in Yankee land.

  2. Truly one of the greats. From the same era as A. P. Carter and the Carter family.

  3. So good! It just doesn't get better than that...the real deal. When I moved to TN with my two sons, one of them said they would never sound like that..Now, you would never know he had ever lived anywhere but the DEEP South! We tease him about it because he sounds soo country.
