Some Railroad Memorbilla

My very small collection of railroad collectables.

And a big Thank You to Ken Lane for adding to it.

Ashtray
Clinchfield Railroad Company
Enlarge to see the name.

Playing cards from the Southern Pacific Lines.
I want to thank Ken Lane (Wirecutter) for giving these to me. And to Miss Lisa for coordinating everything. They belonged to one of his grandparents and have never been shuffled.

The face of each card has a different picture.

Paperweight made from railroad track.
Approx 7" high, 6" across the foot and 1/2 " thick.
Weight 2 pounds
Track is graded by its linear density. This is at the highest
range of the usual pounds per yard at 141 lb/yd.

Track installation hardware.
Spike, square head sleeper spike, e clip, railway anchor (top to bottom, left to right)

I don't have an original railroad lantern. This is close. It is a W. T. Kirkman #100 Watchman that is new. Red and green glass globes are available.

Sheet music from 1940.

  2. It just sort of happened, I didn't set out to start a collection. Is this the lantern your glass fits? https://www.railroadmemories.com/dynapage/IP1278.htm
I was really pleased with the gift, it was quite a surprise. The cards will remain un shuffled.

  3. That lantern is gorgeous! I know someone, who knows someone, lol..no I know a lady that works for the railroad here, her father and grandfather did as well, I wonder if she has any interesting items that she may be willing to part with to add to your collection...I will check into that! She gave me engineer caps for my grandson, but they were very small.

It was a pleasure and an honor to pass on something that you would find enjoyment in having. Ken had them for years, and when we were packing, he showed them to me, and my first thought was of you.
It is lovely to collect things that bring you joy!

    1. I had an uncle that retired from the L&N in Nashville. CSX now. He passed last year. Was born in Hartsville and lived with one of his sons in Whitehouse for a number of years.
I have a couple of engineer's caps. I guess I could have put them in the post, but Alf is wearing one of them in the sidebar photo.

  4. The cards belonged to my dad's mother who traveled quite a bit by train back in the 40s and 50s. I have no idea how old they are but I know I've had them for over 30 years. The way she collected stuff, there's no telling how long she had them.
I'm glad they went to somebody that appreciates them.
